LAFC vs LA Galaxy Highlights

The second episode of El Tráfico for the 2022 season arrived in the dramatic LAFC vs LA Galaxy game for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday. The Black and Gold just can’t seem to buy one at Dignity Health Sports Park where The Galaxy own a 6-0-2 record against their hometown rivals. In a 3-1 loss, LAFC was eliminated from the 2022 U.S. Open Cup in the Round of 16 match.

LA Galaxy’s first goal came at the 51st minute where forwards Samuel Grandsir found Kévin Cabral on an open look cross for goal that gave them the 1-0 lead. Just six minutes later, Grandsir tallied his second assist of the match finding Javier “Chicharito” Hernández who buried it for another score past LAFC goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau.

Two players in Black and Gold had to be substituted due to injuries, which included forward Carlos Vela and defender Diego Palacios. Adding salt to the wound, LA Galaxy were able to sneak in their third goal of the match in the 81st minute due to Dejan Joveljić’s shot to the far post.

Former LAFC player and current LA Galaxy fullback Raheem Edwards said the following about the contest:

“I think it’s a mental thing. They know that when they come here, it’s not going to be an easy game. It’s just the rivalry in general. Being away from home in a rivalry is not easy. They know it’s not an easy task. So I think maybe it creeps up the back of their mind.”

LAFC defended the Galaxy shutout with a goal in the 85th minute thanks to a Hollingsheader off of a cross from Cifu. And that was all she wrote for the second El Tráfico episode this season. Hopefully the narrative changes the next time these two rivals face each other. We’ve got our calendars marked for Friday, July 8 at Banc of California Stadium.

The San Jose Earthquakes are up next this Saturday, May 28.
