LAFC vs LA Galaxy Highlights
The first episode of El Tráfico this season ended in some controversy as the LAFC vs LA Galaxy match was nearly equalized at the 97th minute in stoppage time. The Black & Gold left Dignity Health Sports Park in a 2-1 loss, allowing LA Galaxy to keep their rivalry win streak at home alive.
In what resulted in another memorable match between the two Los Angeles clubs, most of the game leaned on the home team’s side as LA Galaxy scored two goals in the first half. Javier “Chicharito”Hernandez was able to shoot one in due to a cross by Samuel Grandsir during the 13th minute which put the Galaxy in front 1-0.
LAFC’s Carlos Vela had a clear opportunity to tie the game in the 23’ when Galaxy goalkeeper Jonathan Bond was kneeling out of reach. Vela unfortunately drilled it off the post. Then came Galaxy’s Sega Coulibaly who poked one in off a hook pass from Grandsir in the 31’. The momentum of the match definitely swung home in that half.
Right when the second half started, Vela had another clear shot but this time he was able to get the ball to the back of the net past Bond. Of course, it didn’t count due to an offsides call. Bond continued with some locked in moments blocking a few more scoring opportunities by the Black & Gold.
LAFC finally got their first goal of the match in the 79th minute thanks to a Cristian Arango put back after Vela missed a conversion off a long throw-in. Momentum picked up for LAFC as the match went into stoppage time. Eight minutes into stoppage, a scramble near the goal gave Latif Blessing an equalizer shot which later became overturned due to offsides on a Video Review.
This would have been LAFC’s first victory against the LA Galaxy at Dignity Health. The two clubs will compete once more this season on July 8 at Banc of California Stadium. Traveling back home next week, LAFC will match up against Sporting Kansas City on Sunday, April 17.
