LAFC vs Houston Dynamo FC – September 7, 2024
In a 0-0 tie, the result of the LAFC vs Houston Dynamo FC match allowed the Black and Gold to record a point which keeps them only four points away from first place of the Western Conference in the hunt for the 2024 Supporter’s Shield. It’s important to note that LAFC held out seven of their first-team players, some of them which include Mateusz Bogusz, Denis Bouanga, David Martinez, and Cristian Olivera.
These four Black and Gold jerseys have accommodated 35 of LAFC’s 48 goals this 2024 season. Even though LAFC only accumulated a point, they now hold a 14-6-6 record with 48 points for the season. Omar Campos, Jesús Murillo, and midfielder David Martínez also did not play.
Almost five minutes into the first half stoppage time, it seemed that LAFC was able to put one on the board when Ryan Hollingshead drilled one into the back of the net through Houston Dynamo FC goalkeeper Steve Clark. Unfortunately an offsides call was made on the play as LAFC’s Olivier Giroud overextended on the drive.
Defense was key for both clubs as both Clark and LAFC’s Hugo Lloris recorded clean sheet shutouts on Saturday night. Lloris, who is the only LAFC player to start across all 26 regular season matches, recorded his 10th shutout in 2024, becoming the first goalkeeper in the MLS to record 10 shutouts this season.
With the draw, LAFC has extended their unbeaten streak on the road to seven matches with a 5-0-2 record since May 4. The Black and Gold will travel just a few miles south as they play against hometown rivals LA Galaxy in their third episode of El Trafico this season on Saturday, September 14.
