LAFC vs Houston Dynamo FC – August 31, 2024
Returning back to the MLS regular season, the LAFC vs Houston Dynamo FC matchup ended up in a 2-0 loss at BMO Stadium on Saturday night. This was only the second loss this 2024 season at home at BMO Stadium. Across all competitions this year, LAFC is 15-2-4 at home.
The Houston Dynamo scored their first goal in the 28th minute when HDFC’s Ezequiel Ponce recorded his first ever MLS goal to give his team the lead. LAFC’s Denis Bouanga came close to equalizing the match but Houston Dynamo goalkeeper Steve Clark was able to make the save while positioning right in front of the 2023 MLS Golden Boot winner.
Later on in the second half of the match, Dynamo forward Lawrence Ennali was able to find a breakaway goal as he blew by multiple Black and Gold jerseys and struck a touchy right footed finish through LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to double the lead. Got to give credit to Clark for the impressive defensive effort as he collected six saves in his shutout performance.
The last time LAFC was shutout at home was on March 9 against Sporting Kansas City which resulted in a 0-0 draw.
With a 14-6-5 record and 47 points, LAFC is still in second place in the Western Conference despite the setback. In order to get to the U.S. Open Cup Final, LAFC competed in the Leagues Cup Final on August 25 and defeated Seattle 1-0 on August 28.
Making his MLS debut, LAFC’s Olivier Giroud was able to enter the game in the 67th minute of the match. Giroud appeared in the last four Leagues Cup games.
LAFC will face off against HDFC once again at Shell Energy Stadium on Saturday, September 7.
