LAFC vs Columbus Crew – July 13, 2024
The Black and Gold winning streak came to an end in the LAFC vs Columbus Crew matchup on Saturday night. The 2023 MLS Cup rematch only say one goal from LAFC while the Crew scored four with one in the first half and the remaining four in the second.
Columbus Crew forward Christian Ramírez was the first to score, catching a cross from teammate Max Arfsten 38 minutes into the game for a header past LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. After halftime, Cucho Hernández and former LAFC forward Diego Rossi both added to their team’s tally for a 3-0 lead.
Cucho secured the ball at the top of the box in the 55th minute and shot a dart to double the lead. Then only five minutes later, Rossi kicked in his first goal against his former team.

Later on in the second half, LAFC’s Sergi Palencia received a second yellow card and was substituted, leaving the Black and Gold with just 10 men. Ramirez scored his second goal of the match following a free kick, bringing the score to 4-0.
LAFC did add to the board when Nathan Ordaz, who replaced Denis Bouanga, followed up on a shot by David Martínez for his first MLS career goal in the regular season This game was Ordaz’s 11th regular season appearance this season and the 28th of his career.
The Crew’s Darlington Nagbe and Alex Matan hammered down the final nail in the coffin when Nagbe picked the ball off from LAFC’s half of the field and sent it over to Matan for the score. Unfortunately Mateusz Bogusz had a quiet game, ending his streak of 10 straight league games with a goal or an assist.
The first loss at home for LAFC this season was a tough pill to swallow, but ended an amazing streak that only champions could dream of. We hope LAFC can bounce back next week against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, July 17.
