LAFC vs Columbus Crew Highlights

The Black and Gold were back on track on Saturday as they came out victorious in the LAFC vs Columbus Crew match at Lower.com Field. In the 2-0 victory, both scores occurred in the second half thanks to Carlos Vela and Jose Cifuentes who helped LAFC rebound from their two-game losing streak.

Following a 2 hour and 47 minute weather delay, the first half began and was well defended by both clubs though there was also the inclusion of missed shots on clear looks. It wasn’t until the second half where the first goal of the match was scored. After Vela was substituted in, he was able to outpace Josh Williams to score his sixth goal of the 2022 season at the 62th minute past Columbus goalkeeper Eloy Room.

11 minutes later, Chicho Arango stole the ball from The Crew’s midfielder Darlington Nagbe which allowed Cifuentes to secure the possession and score off a dribble through some defenders. Columbus wasn’t able to convert for the rest of the match due to offside calls and difficult shot angles.

LAFC might have been blessed by the weather delays, as a total of over 4 hours was spent in hiatus because of the inclement weather. That said, defense was key in this match as Maxime Crépeau finished with three saves under his belt to maintain his first clean sheet since May 1st. This also marked the sixth time Columbus was shut out in their last eight games.

LAFC retained first place in the MLS Western Conference following the win with a season record of 8-3-2 and 26 points and will face their local rivals, the LA Galaxy, in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, May 26.
