LAFC vs Charlotte FC Highlights

The Black and Gold tied their highest scoring game of the season in their explosive 5-0 win in the LAFC vs Charlotte FC match on Saturday in Week 25 of the 2022 MLS season. With four goals in the second half and an own goal by CLT, there seems to be nothing stopping LAFC as they continue their hot streak with six wins in a row, setting a new club record.

The game was better off for Charlotte in the opening five minutes, but they did not perform any noteworthy offense as the minutes passed. LAFC started to gain more possessions and momentum and it carried into the second half with an eruption of goals.

Four minutes after halftime, LAFC’s Diego Palacios was able to find Jesús Murillo over the top for an amazing header into the back post for his second goal of the season. Just ten minutes later, Carlos Vela corner kicked toward José Cifuentes who easily launched one with his right foot to the back of the net and brought the lead to 2-0.

Cifu returned the favor to Vela in the 73rd minute with a cross down the middle and snuck one past CLT goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina for the third goal of the LAFC vs Charlotte FC match. El Capitán now has 8 goals this season alongside his seven assists.

The best play of the night occurred in the 76’ where it seemed like all Black and Gold jerseys touched the ball and made an impact on their next scoring possession. On the drive, Kwadwo Opoku brought the ball past the halfway line and found Cristian Arango who kicked it back to Latif Blessing. Blessing passed to Ryan Hollingshead and caught Franco Escobar on the run. Escobar then tapped it to Arango on the cut through the center box and scored number four for the night. What a goal.

The LAFC vs Charlotte FC highlights didn’t stop there. Blessing had possession during stoppage time and caused a hiccup between CLT’s Anton Walkes and Kahlina that resulted in an own goal to bring the shutout to a big 5-0. It’s safe to say Kahlina lost some sleep that night.

With the victory, LAFC improved to 17-4-3 overall for a league-leading 54 points. In the battle for the Supporters Shield, they lead Austin FC and the Philadelphia Union by six points. On 2 days rest following the LAFC vs Charlotte FC match, they’ll go back at it on Tuesday, August 16 as they host D.C. United at home at Banc of California Stadium.
