LAFC vs Austin FC Highlights
The LAFC vs Austin FC matchup was a shutout win for the Los Angeles Football Club and ATX’s first loss at home this season at Q2 Stadium, thanks to Jose Cifuentes and Diego Rossi. The pair scored two goals on Wednesday night as they won the second time this season against the Austin Football Club.
Kekuta Manneh made his first start for the Verde & Black and also almost made his first goal for the team in the 19th minute but the shot was saved by Tomás Romero of the Black & Gold. 20 minutes later our own José Cifuentes followed up for a rebound goal after Moon-Hwan Kim’s strike that was saved by ATX goalkeeper Brad Stuver.
After halftime, Austin FC’s midfielder Diego Fagundez almost tied up the game but his shot was blocked by Romero. ATX had a few more close opportunities with Alex Ring and Cecilio Domínguez but their chances fell short. In the 73rd minute, Ring went for a header off a corner kick by Zan Kolmanic but it ended up wide. At 86’, Domínguez set a hard cross in front of the net but Austin FC was unable to capitalize.
Just a few minutes later during the 89th minute, LAFC was able to go for the dagger when Carlos Vela found Diego Rossi up through the middle. Rossi made sure to take just enough time to confirm that Stuver committed to the ground and went for the shot, which nailed the coffin on the Los Angeles Football Club 2-0 win against ATX. For the season, the Black & Gold are now 2-0 versus the Austin Football Club.
Real Salt Lake will be next in line for LAFC. The game will be played on Saturday, July 7 at Banc of California Stadium.
