LAFC vs Austin FC Highlights
For the first time since their inaugural season, the Black and Gold have finally made it to the MLS Cup following their 3–0 shutout victory in the LAFC vs Austin FC match at home on Halloween’s Eve. What a treat this was as LAFC will be taking home field advantage and hosting the 2022 MLS Cup final against the Philadelphia Union next Saturday, November 5.
To start off the LAFC vs Austin FC highlights, LAFC senior forward Cristian ”Chicho” Arango drew first blood in the 29th minute on a clean header off a corner kick from Carlos Vela to put the Black and Gold on the board with the 1–0 lead. Chicho has over 30 goals since the August of last summer, and now has scored in each of the last two post season games, tying clubmates Carlos Vela, Denis Bouanga, and Adama Diomande as the LAFC leading scorers in the record books.
Austin FC goalkeeper Brad Stuver did make some great defensive saves on the LAFC weapons prior to halftime, along with saves against both Chicho and Ryan Hollingshead in the second half, but that was about all she wrote for The Oaks to make up their side of the LAFC vs Austin FC highlights. Another corner kick by Vela in the second half resulted in an own goal by ATX’s Maximiliano Urruti, giving LAFC a two point lead.
LAFC then subbed in forward Kwadwo Opoku, who scored the dagger goal in the 81’ to seal the deal for the Black and Gold and their road trip to the MLS Cup. Bouanga did shoot in a goal during stoppage time but Video Review called it back as Opoku was shown offsides in the play.
Nonetheless, LAFC couldn’t have played any better, and carry perfect momentum going into the 2022 MLS Cup finals.
“Our guys did an emphatic job,” said LAFC coach Steve Cherundolo. “That was the best I have seen implementing our match play from the beginning to the end. I’m very proud of the guys, but what I experienced in the locker room was hunger and a want for more.”
