In exchange for Marco Farfan, defender Ryan Hollingshead joins LAFC
Defender Ryan Hollingshead joins LAFC via trade following an exchange with FC Dallas. The two Western Conference teams swapped defenders just ahead of the 2022 MLS season. LAFC now receives a vet in Hollingshead for their backline.
Spending the last eight seasons with the Burn, the 30-year-old defender Ryan Hollingshead joins LAFC after making 193 appearances in 149 starts and scored 18 regular season goals with 15 assists in 13,433 minutes. Originally from Sacramento, the California native played college soccer at UCLA between 2009 and 2012 earning All-Pac-12 honors for all three years. After leading the Bruins to the College Cup semifinals in 2011, Hollingshead was selected to the NCAA All-Tournament Team in 2011 and the NSCAA All-America team in 2012. Hollingsheads was then drafted by FC Dallas in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft.

“Ryan is not only known as one of the most versatile and valuable players in MLS but also as a great person and leader,” said LAFC co-president & general manager John Thorrington. “For these reasons, we are incredibly excited to welcome Ryan, his wife Taylor, and their family to LAFC. We also appreciate what Marco has meant to the club during his time here, which makes the moment bittersweet for us. He is a class act both on and off the field and we wish him all the best in Dallas.”
Defender Ryan Hollingshead joins LAFC in another big trade for LAFC this offseason after they acquired goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau and midfielder Kellyn Acosta. We’re sorry to see Farfan go but appreciate his time and contributions here with the Black & Gold.
