Major League Soccer announced yesterday that members of the media voted LAFC star Carlos Vela MLS Player of the Month presented by EA SPORTS™ for the month of March.
After a spectacular 2018 campaign for LAFC that saw Vela net 14 goals to go along with a staggering 13 assists, the man, the myth, the legend picked up right where he left off, with an added something to prove after last November’s early playoff exit. He is now on pace to shatter last year’s totals — and the all-time goal scoring record set by Atlanta FC’s Josef Martinez.
In the opener against Sporting Kansas City, the club got the win but Vela was blanked. He then spent the next four weeks going on an absolute rampage, notching six goals and three assists in four games. And after last week’s match against D.C. United, he has seven goals and four assists.
Those tallies put him atop the leader board in both categories for 2019.
Vela was involved in three of the four goals against the Portland Timbers on March 10th, in their second game of the season, with a goal and two assists.
LAFC then flew to New York for a match against NYCFC on March 17th. It was a scrappy match and LAFC desperately needed their star to come up big in their first road match in order to maintain their unbeaten streak to open the season. He delivered with both goals to secure the away point.
After getting blanked at home for a second time against Real Salt Lake, Vela rounded out the month with a vengeance, singlehandedly dismantling a crumbling Earthquakes defense in San Jose. He scored the first hat trick of his already-impressive MLS career and rounded out the 5-0 drubbing with an assist en route to the media voting Carlos Vela MLS Player of the Month.
Vela was also voted into the MLS Team of the Week three times and Player of the Week once in March.

LAFC are riding their Captain’s flames to a league-best record of 5-0-1. As of today, they are on a six-game unbeaten streak, with their only points dropped on the cross-country trip to play NYCFC. And their 19 goals for in the first six games of the regular season is the most by any club in MLS history.
In four days LAFC welcome expansion side FC Cincinnati into Banc of California Stadium hoping for more of the same form in April that earned Carlos Vela MLS Player of the Month for March.
