Carlos Vela, Ilie Sánchez, and Diego Palacios make the 2022 MLS All-Star Game roster
Announced today, three Black and Gold jerseys have been named to the 2022 MLS All-Star Game roster. Major League Soccer released the full 26 player roster for the 2022 MLS All-star Game presented by Target, which include forward Carlos Vela, defensive/holding midfielder Ilie Sánchez, and left-back defender Diego Palacios.
Vela, who will be heading to his fourth MLS All-Star game, was selected to the roster this season by MLS head coach Adrian Heath. In 2022, Vela has now recorded six goals and eight assists in 17 games, and has recently reached 100 combined goals (62) and assists (48) in 98 appearances, becoming the third-fastest player in the league to achieve such a feat.
Sánchez enters his second MLS All-Star game and was voted in the roster by the media, the active players, and the public. Sánchez leads his club in minutes played (1,587), passes completed (797), and interceptions (31), and has made 19 appearances while being named to the MLS Team of the Week three times this season (1, 3, 5).
Palacios, who was also selected in by Adrian Heath, will be participating in his first MLS All-Star game. The Ecuadorian leads LAFC in interceptions (27) and key passes (16) and has recorded one goal and three assists. Palacios was named to the MLS Team of the Week in Weeks 9 and 16.
In addition to having the best record in the MLS, LAFC and New York City FC are the only clubs to have a league-high three players on the 2022 MLS All-Star Game roster.
The MLS All-Stars will be playing Mexico’s Liga MX All-Stars for the second straight season on August 10 at 5:30 pm PT at Allianz Field in Minnesota. The match is scheduled to broadcast on ESPN and Univision in the United States, TSN and TVA Sports in Canada, and ESPN in Mexico and Latin America.
